In the IMSA race at Laguna Seca, Porsche managed to overtake Cadillac thanks to a decisive maneuver by Nick Tandy on Jack Aitken of Cadillac in the final minutes of the event. This event was exclusive to the GTP and GTD categories.
The 2 hour and 40 minute event concluded with a victory for Porsche, marking Roger Penske's hundredth victory in sportscar competitions. Sebastien Bourdais set a new record in qualifying and led the race from the start.
The Action Express team, with Pipo Derani, faced issues with the vehicle's balance that led to an early stop. The vehicles from Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing and Wayne Taylor Racing were also constantly present.
A key moment was when the only caution flag was activated due to debris on the track, allowing all leaders to reorganize and adjust their strategies. Tandy, taking control in the Porsche #6, executed maneuvers that eventually allowed him to advance and stay ahead after an intense duel with Aitken.
The decisions in the pits were critical in the final stages, especially for Cadillac, which opted for less fuel and only two tires on its last stop, allowing Aitken to remain competitive until the end. Tandy's ability to navigate through traffic was crucial to securing the victory.
In the GTD Pro category, Chevrolet dominated the initial qualifying, but it was Porsche that took the victory in a close encounter with McLaren. The decisions made during the yellow flags were key to the final outcome.
