Scott McLaughlin clinched the victory at the Alabama Grand Prix at Barber Motorsports Park. Leading in the Team Penske's number 3 Chevrolet, he adopted a three-pit-stop strategy that proved crucial in his fight for first place.
During a challenging week for Team Penske due to technical non-compliance penalties in a previous race, McLaughlin stood out for his focus and precision. The outcome was not only redemption for the team but also marked the first win of the season for the New Zealand driver, raising his total to five victories in the INDYCAR series.
"We are here to compete at our fullest, and that's what we did," McLaughlin commented. During the race, he dominated a total of 58 laps, including the crucial final part where he secured his lead after the last pit stop.
Will Power, also from Team Penske, secured the second place, while Linus Lundqvist, rookie driver for Chip Ganassi Racing, made a remarkable recovery from nineteenth to third place, demonstrating his prowess in competitive conditions.
The event was filled with varied strategies, with some drivers like Alex Palou and Felix Rosenqvist from Chip Ganassi Racing opting for two pit stops in search of a fuel advantage, though they couldn't surpass McLaughlin.
