The INDYCAR regulatory body has imposed sanctions on Team Penske after identifying breaches in the use of the push-to-pass system during the St. Petersburg Grand Prix. The infractions involve car No. 2 driven by Josef Newgarden and No. 3 by Scott McLaughlin, which have been disqualified, while car No. 12 driven by Will Power has received a 10-point penalty.
During technical review, it was discovered that Team Penske had modified data communication that activates the "Push to Pass" system, allowing its use at times not authorized by the regulations. This manipulation was initially detected during the warm-up session for the Long Beach Grand Prix on April 21, leading to a more thorough review of the data from the St. Petersburg event.
As a result, in addition to the loss of points and disqualifications, Team Penske faces a fine of $25,000 per entry and the loss of all monetary prizes earned in that race.
To prevent future infractions, INDYCAR has announced the implementation of new technical inspection procedures that will start with this week's race at Barber Motorsports Park.
The disqualification of cars No. 2 and No. 3 has altered the final results of the St. Petersburg Grand Prix, now awarding the victory to car No. 5 of Arrow McLaren, driven by Pato O’Ward. Updated results and standings for the 2024 season are available for review on the official INDYCAR website.
Team members have the option to appeal these decisions according to the procedures established in the INDYCAR series regulations.
