Porsche has officially initiated the appeal process against the disqualification of Antonio Felix da Costa from the recent E-Prix in Misano. At this event, Da Costa achieved his first triumph of the season, which was the Formula E's first visit to the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli. The Portuguese driver claimed his first victory since the Cape Town E-Prix last season, overtaking Nissan's Oliver Rowland in the last three laps of a race that featured numerous leadership changes.
However, shortly after the competition ended, Da Costa's triumph was annulled due to a non-permitted setting found in the throttle damper of his vehicle, associated with a spring. This component had previously been used in the Gen2 vehicles but was excluded from the “GEN3 Spark Catalogue” with the arrival of the new cars for the 2022-23 season. Porsche acknowledged that the spring had been in use since the start of the Gen3 generation, highlighting that the catalogue only mentioned the addition of new parts, omitting those that were removed.
Following the announcement of the disqualification, Porsche expressed their intention to appeal, which gave them a 96-hour deadline to formalize the appeal. On Wednesday, just before the deadline, the company issued a statement saying: "We confirm that Porsche has appealed decision #31 of the stewards of the 2024 FIA Formula E Misano E-Prix, which occurred on April 13, 2024".
