Sam Mayer from JR Motorsports managed to outpace Ryan Sieg from Ryan Sieg Racing in an extremely close competition. Mayer, driving the number 1 Chevrolet, made a crucial pass on the last lap to secure his first victory of the season at the Andy’s Frozen Custard 300. The margin of victory was just 0.002 seconds, with Mayer and Sieg crossing the finish line practically at the same time, requiring additional review by officials to confirm the winner.
This victory marks Mayer's first win of the year and the fifth in his career. On the other hand, Sieg, who has participated in 342 races in this series without a win, led 17 of the last 18 laps, showing an outstanding performance but insufficient to secure the first place. After the race, Mayer expressed satisfaction with the effort made and the difficulty of the competition, while Sieg shared his frustration with the result, despite his solid performance.
In other notable results, Justin Allgaier, who led most of the laps and won both stages of the race, finished third. A.J. Allmendinger finished fourth and Cole Custer fifth, affecting his position in the overall championship standings, where he is now 19 points behind leader Chandler Smith.
With this result, Mayer not only improves his position in the season after a challenging start but also takes home the $100,000 prize offered by Xfinity as part of the Dash 4 Cash program. Mayer, along with Sieg, Allgaier, and Allmendinger, will compete for another significant check at the next race at Talladega Superspeedway.
The JR Motorsports team, co-owned by Kelley Earnhardt Miller and Dale Earnhardt Jr., also had a notable day, with all their cars finishing among the top 13 and three of their drivers leading laps during the race. The Xfinity Series will continue its season with the next race scheduled at Talladega Superspeedway, marking another significant challenge for the competitors.
