Alpine's Habsburg Injured in Tests

Habsburg's Uncertain Future After the Aragon Incident and its Impact on the Alpine Team

During a recent testing session in Spain, Ferdinand Habsburg, a driver for the Alpine team in the World Endurance Championship, suffered an accident resulting in two vertebral fractures. This incident occurred on March 27 at the Motorland Aragón circuit, where Habsburg was testing the Alpine A424 LMDh vehicle.

Habsburg, who was participating in the tests along with other Alpine drivers, had the accident at turn 7 of the circuit. Following the incident, he was taken to a nearby hospital in Alcañiz for an initial evaluation and subsequently returned to Austria. In his home country, he underwent additional examinations which revealed the severity of his back injuries. Fortunately, doctors confirmed that there was no neurological impact due to the accident.

The 26-year-old Austrian driver has already started his recovery treatment, although it is still uncertain if he will be able to compete in the 6 Hours of Imola scheduled for April 21. If Habsburg is not in condition to participate in the race in Italy, Alpine could call upon Jules Gounon, a Mercedes factory driver and announced as Alpine's reserve driver in February of this year.

Alpine, through a statement, expressed their full support for Habsburg and their wishes for a speedy recovery. The exact cause of the accident is still being investigated.
Before this setback, Habsburg had contributed to the solid start of Alpine's LMDh program at the Qatar 1812Km.
