Kyle Larson achieved victory in the Featured Health 250 race of the NASCAR Xfinity Series at the Circuit of the Americas. The race, the first of the year on a circuit for the series, was notable for its intense competition.
During the final stages, Shane van Gisbergen and Austin Hill competed for the lead, resulting in a deviation from the racing line. Larson, in his Hendrick Motorsports No. 17 Chevrolet, took this opportunity to take the lead and secure the victory by 1.215 seconds. This was the only lap Larson led in the 20-turn, 3.51-mile circuit.
Van Gisbergen finished in second place but was later relegated to 27th due to a 30-second penalty for exceeding track limits. This left Hill, driver of the No. 21 Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing, as the official second-place finisher.
Larson expressed his satisfaction at the end of the race, mentioning the importance of patience and strategy. After a pit stop for refueling during the last caution, he managed to advance from the back.
Both Van Gisbergen and Hill expressed dissatisfaction with the damage to their vehicles in the last lap. Van Gisbergen, in his fifth race in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, remained optimistic about his chances in future competitions.
Third place went to John Hunter Nemechek, followed by Cole Custer and Parker Kligerman. Austin Green, making his debut in the series, had a notable performance finishing eighth. Kligerman, from Big Machine Racing, won Stage 1 of the race.
The NASCAR Xfinity Series is preparing for its next competition, the ToyotaCare 250 at Richmond Raceway, where Chandler Smith will seek to repeat his victory from last year.
