A new record in the world of motorsport took place at the Mount Panorama circuit. The Ford Performance SuperVan 4.2, an electric vehicle, has broken another record, becoming the fastest closed-wheel vehicle to complete a lap on this iconic circuit. During the Thrifty Bathurst 500 event, this electric machine set three lap records, demonstrating the capabilities of electric and commercial vehicles.
Romain Dumas, behind the wheel, achieved a lap time of 1:56.3247 on the 6.2-kilometer track, reaching speeds of over 300 km/h. This time sets a mark not only for closed-wheel vehicles but also for electric and commercial ones.
Mark Rushbrook, from Ford Performance Motorsports, highlighted the dedication and technique necessary to achieve this feat. The choice of Mount Panorama for this challenge was not accidental, given its unique profile in the world of motorsport. Romain Dumas, who had previously set a record with the SuperVan 4.2 at Pikes Peak, shared his impressions of driving at over 300 km/h, highlighting the differences between Mount Panorama and Pikes Peak.
The SuperVan 4.2 is not a conventional race car. With a considerable height and a weight close to 1800 kg, this vehicle challenges established norms in racing. Sriram Pakkam from Ford Performance mentioned the team's continuous effort to optimize this electric van.
After two weeks at Mount Panorama, the SuperVan 4.2 has not only captured the attention of fans but also offered a glimpse into the future of electric motorsport. Andrew Birkic from Ford Australia indicated that the lessons learned will influence the next generation of Ford electric vehicles, bringing a touch of Mount Panorama to the roads. The SuperVan 4.2 will now head to Ford's Test Facility in Victoria and participate in the Adelaide Motorsport Festival and the Australian Grand Prix Formula 1 by Rolex.
