The FIA World Rallycross Championship has announced its 2024 calendar, marking the beginning of a new era with the introduction of a dynamic competition between electric and combustion vehicles. This year, the innovative RX1e electric cars, which debuted two years ago, will compete directly with their RX1 combustion counterparts. This new setup promises to add an additional dimension to this already exciting motorsport discipline.
The 2024 calendar, approved at the FIA World Motor Sport Council meeting, consists of ten rounds, including five double-header events. The activities will start with an independent event of the FIA European Rallycross Championship, to be held in Essay, France, on June 8-9. This locality hosts a Euro RX competition again after more than a decade.
The World Championship competition will kick off in Sweden, at Höljes' 'Magic Weekend' on July 6-7, an event that was awarded as the best of the year at the recent FIA Off-Road Prize-Giving ceremony. Subsequently, the championship will move to Hungary, where the Nyirád circuit, known as the 'Red Cauldron', will host its first global event on July 27-28.
The next stops include Mettet, Belgium (August 17-18) and Montalegre, Portugal (September 7-8). In addition, plans are underway to add an event in Asia in the fall, before concluding the season with a new grand finale in Australia, scheduled for November 30 - December 1. This will be the first championship event in Australia, continuing the expansion of World RX to new territories.
