Roberto Espinosa Claims His Fourth Victory of 2026 in Trucks México

Roberto Espinosa, Sebastián Rodríguez, and Jan Krüll took the top three places in the first race of the Trucks México Series Chase at the Óvalo Aguascalientes México, with less than one tenth of a second between them, while Santiago Cruz and Valeria Aranda finished 12th and 13th.

For Espinosa, it is his fourth win of 2026, one more than Carlos Novelo, and his second at this oval. He arrived at a postseason that began with the seven qualifiers separated by eight points, from Espinosa's 1008 to Krüll's 1000, with the points reset.

The first round of the Chase was scheduled for September 4 and 5 at the Autódromo Monterrey, but weather prevented it from being held, and the postseason began at Aguascalientes instead.

In qualifying, Gael Aguilar, who is not in the title fight, took his second pole of the year. The total time included a mandatory pit stop for a tire change, with penalty seconds for any mistake or infraction, and Aguilar's team completed the change in 12 seconds. Aguilar left Espinosa, the best of the seven Chase drivers, just over one tenth behind. Cruz started third, Rodríguez fourth, Everardo Fonseca fifth, Novelo sixth, and Aranda seventh. Krüll, who along with Cruz had been among the fastest in practice, started 12th.

Krüll went from that position to the front within a few laps and won both the first stage, on lap 30, and the second, on lap 60, along with the bonus points from each. The race was 100 laps on a 1.4-kilometer oval, and the No. 7 truck held the lead for much of the distance, until in the second half the two trucks from the same team closed in, the No. 9 of Rodríguez and the No. 96 of Espinosa.

Espinosa stayed close to both, waiting for his opportunity, and with less than 20 laps to go, he used Rodríguez's slipstream, as Rodríguez chased Krüll, to move ahead. The slipstream is the low-resistance zone behind another truck, which allows a driver to go faster with less effort and makes passing easier on ovals. Krüll then had to defend against two trucks that began working together.

With two laps to go, Rodríguez pushed again, caught Espinosa and Krüll, and the three lined up together. Contact between Rodríguez and Krüll shuffled the order and gave Espinosa the margin he needed to reach the checkered flag first, with Rodríguez 59 thousandths behind and Krüll 91 back.

Espinosa now has four wins and the most of any of the seven Chase drivers. Rodríguez, in his first year in the category, finished second and, together with Espinosa, produced the first result of 2026 in which two trucks from the same team occupy the top two places. Krüll, seventh among the qualifiers and forced to defend his spot after a mechanical failure at San Luis Potosí, came away with a third place and the bonus points from both stages.

Novelo, who along with Espinosa was at the center of the battle for wins during the regular season, finished fifth, and Fonseca sixth, both behind Edwin Arenas, who is not in the Chase and finished fourth. Cruz, who had started third, finished 12th, five laps behind the winner, and Aranda, 13th, 56 back. With an eight-point gap among the seven at the start, a result like this leaves them at a disadvantage compared to those who finished ahead.

The Chase continues on October 17 and 18 at the Autódromo Emerson Fittipaldi de Yucatán, and then the final scheduled round remains, on November 8 at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico City.
