NASCAR confirmed FedEx Freight as the title sponsor of the Truck Series starting in 2027, which means the category will be renamed the NASCAR FedEx Freight Truck Series and will bring an end to Craftsman's second stint at the helm of the series. The agreement takes effect on January 1, 2027 and also includes FedEx Freight becoming an official NASCAR partner and its exclusive freight transportation provider in the United States, Canada, and Mexico—a position that covers the entire sanctioning body and not just the Truck Series.
Craig Stimmel, NASCAR's senior vice president and chief commercial officer, framed the relationship as a natural fit between a category built around competition trucks and a company whose daily business is precisely moving freight by road. On the FedEx Freight side, its president and CEO, John Smith, placed the sponsorship within the stage the company is going through as an independent operator, after separating from FedEx Corporation and beginning to trade on the stock market on its own.
The category was born in 1995 as the NASCAR SuperTruck Series with Craftsman as sponsor from its very first season, a relationship that lasted 14 consecutive years until 2008. It then carried the names Camping World, Gander Outdoors, and Gander RV & Outdoors, until NASCAR brought back the Camping World name in 2021.
Craftsman returned as title sponsor in 2023, fourteen years after leaving that position, and that deal was broader than just the category name. Stanley Black & Decker, owner of Craftsman, became the official tool provider for NASCAR tracks and obtained the commercial rights to the Triple Truck Challenge and the championship race, in addition to maintaining a presence with teams such as Joe Gibbs Racing since 2018, one year after the company added Craftsman to its portfolio.
The change comes one year later than the adjustment in NASCAR's intermediate category, which went from being called the Xfinity Series to the NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series in 2026 following a multi-year agreement with the auto parts chain. With the arrival of FedEx Freight, the three national series once again have distinct commercial names, with the Cup Series under its traditional designation and the other two tied to their respective title sponsors.
The first race under the NASCAR FedEx Freight Truck Series name will be held in the 2027 season.
