Pascal Wehrlein was crowned Formula E world champion for the second time in the final race of the season at the ExCeL circuit in London, a result that was decided when contact between Joel Eriksson and Jake Dennis knocked the latter out of the points and left Wehrlein's five-point lead intact from the day before.
That lead had been built the day before. In the first race of the London weekend, Wehrlein started from pole and used a full-course yellow caused by Lucas Di Grassi's stopped car to complete his mandatory pit stop without losing the lead, while his teammate Nico Müller held off Mitch Evans. Dennis saved his final Attack Mode activation for the closing stages and charged from outside the top six to second place, overtaking António Félix da Costa and Dan Ticktum, which cut the championship lead to five points heading into the decider.
With that margin, Wehrlein arrived at the final race without needing to win. He only had to manage Dennis and Evans, who was eleven points further back and needed a near-perfect result. The decisive race, however, was decided far from the front. On lap 31, at turn 16, Eriksson made contact with Wehrlein and sent him backward in the order. The same incident damaged Dennis's car, who finished 18th and out of the points. Evans, on his own, finished fourth, a result insufficient to close the mathematical gap. Thus, Wehrlein crossed the finish line in 14th place and still claimed the title, because his margin over Dennis did not change all afternoon.
At the front, away from the championship drama, Taylor Barnard won the race and became, at 22 years and 76 days, the youngest winner in the category. He passed Nyck de Vries on the last corner of the final lap to take the win, ahead of De Vries himself and Edoardo Mortara. It was also the farewell for DS Automobiles in Formula E, as the brand withdraws from the grid at the end of this era of the category.
With that race complete, Formula E distributed its three championships between two brands. Wehrlein took the drivers' title for Porsche, which had also secured the manufacturers' championship weeks earlier in Tokyo. Evans' fourth place, on the other hand, delivered the teams' championship to Jaguar TCS Racing ahead of Porsche, so the final round ended with Porsche owning two crowns and Jaguar the third.
The result has a direct precedent in the German's own career on the same track. In 2024, Wehrlein arrived at the final round in London twelve points behind in the standings and left as champion, a script he now repeats with the margin reversed: he arrived ahead and only needed to contain Dennis to close the season with the title secured. He thus becomes the second driver, alongside Jean-Éric Vergne, to win two Formula E drivers' crowns.
The London round also marked the end of the GEN3 era, with which Porsche won five world championships since joining the category. The next British round on the calendar will be held at Brands Hatch, and the new generation of cars, the GEN4, will debut on December 18 in Jeddah, with pre-season testing scheduled beforehand in Madrid. The new car arrives with 600 kW of available power, equivalent to more than 815 horsepower, and active all-wheel drive throughout the race.
