Nascar Announces Format for El Clash at the Coliseum

Four Heats and 150 Racing Laps

This event features a different format. To begin, competitors will be divided into three practice groups, with each group having three sessions to record their best time. This approach ensures that everyone has the opportunity to adapt to the track and find the perfect rhythm. Speed and precision are key, as the fastest time of each competitor in their last practice session will determine their position on the starting grid for the qualifying races.

As for the qualifying races, there will be four heats of 25 laps each. But here's an important detail: only laps under green flag conditions will be counted, and there will be no extra time. This means that each driver needs to stay focused and avoid errors, as every lap counts. The top five from each heat will advance directly to the Clash, increasing excitement and pressure at every turn.

For those who fail to qualify directly, all is not lost. The 'Last Chance Qualifier' offers a final opportunity to qualify. In an intense 75-lap race, also without extra time, competitors will vie for two coveted spots in the Clash. The starting position in this race is based on the results of the qualifying races, adding an additional layer of strategy to the competition.

And finally, we come to the main event. Here, 23 drivers will compete for 150 laps to reach glory. Like in the other stages, only laps under green flag conditions will be counted, and the race must also conclude under this condition. Additionally, there will be a scheduled break at the halfway point of the race (lap 75). The top 22 positions for the Clash will be determined by finishing positions in the qualifying races and the LCQ. The 23rd place is special: it is reserved for the driver with the best score in the 2023 season who has not qualified.

The Clash at the Coliseum is an opportunity for drivers and teams to prepare for the 2024 season. Although this event does not award points for the championship, it serves as an ideal stage to fine-tune strategies and adjustments before the official start of the season in Daytona on February 18.
