Romain Dumas inscribed his name for the sixth time as overall winner of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb by completing the 12.42‑mile, 156‑turn ascent this Sunday in 8:18.202 in the Ford Super Mustang Mach‑E electric. The 104th edition of America's oldest hillclimb returned to the full course after 2025's weather conditions forced a shortened distance. The Frenchman's time is the third fastest in the history of the full climb, behind only the 7:57.148 he set in the Volkswagen I.D. R in 2018 and Sébastien Loeb's 8:13.878 in the Peugeot 208 T16 in 2013.
The Ford Super Mustang Mach‑E
The Super Mustang Mach‑E competed with the number 125, a reference to Ford's 125 years in competition, which the company celebrates in 2026, and debuted the Unlimited - Production Based category, created for extreme modified production cars. Developed with STARD and supported by Pirelli, the car features three 6‑phase UHP motors delivering over 1,400 horsepower to all four wheels and a 50 kWh battery capable of regenerating up to 710 kW under braking. During the year‑long pause following the shortened 2025 edition, the Ford Racing team scanned the vehicle and compared it with the original CAD data, measured the centre of gravity and the moments of inertia, and applied improvements to steering precision, roll stiffness, suspension geometry and internal system friction. "We matched our simulation time or even improved it, so we squeezed everything out," said Dumas. "The car was great. Driving at Pikes Peak is always a huge privilege. We know how risky the race is, how dangerous it is, and how we're always playing with the limits."
Notable results
Robin Shute reached the summit in 8:29.497 in the Sendycar V1, a prototype designed by his own team that debuted on the mountain and took the Unlimited - Super Unlimited class. The Briton, winner of the event in 2019, 2021 and 2022, put a car developed from scratch on track and placed it in second overall. Simone Faggioli, winner of the shortened 2025 edition in the Nova Proto NP01, was fastest in the qualifying session with a 3:21.858 but could not repeat on race day and finished third with 8:32.997. Diego Degasperi, in another Nova Proto NP01, was fourth.
Dan Novembre won the Open Wheel category in a Wolf GB08S TC Special with a time of 9:01.689, followed by Codie Vahsholtz and Mirl Swan. Billy Johnson won in Pikes Peak Open in a Porsche GT3 Turbo Cup, and JR Hildebrand topped Time Attack 1 in a Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X in 9:30.104. The Pikes Peak GT4 Trophy by Yokohama was won by Laura Hayes in a Toyota Supra GT4 EVO2.
Incidents and absences
The race was stopped by a medical emergency involving Patrick Culligan, who was driving a prototype of his own construction in the Unlimited - Super Unlimited category. He was attended to by medical services on site, and activity resumed once the situation was under control. Culligan is listed as DNF in the official results. The most notable absence was that of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N prepared by Evasive Motorsports, which suffered damage during practice and could not make the start. Also failing to start were Gregoire Blachon in a Radical SR Diesel and Franco Caruso in another Nova Proto NP01. Bruce Jouanny retired during the ascent in a Ligier JS2R.
