Denny Hamlin scored his third consecutive victory in the NASCAR Cup Series by winning the Great American Getaway 400 at Pocono, where he secured his eighth win at that track and the 64th of his career, breaking the tie with Kyle Busch and standing alone in ninth place on the all‑time wins list. The Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota number 11 started from pole and covered the 160 laps of the 2.5‑mile triangular oval with a 1.678‑second advantage over Tyler Reddick, whose second place did not prevent his championship cushion from shrinking to 19 points with ten races remaining before the 16‑driver playoff field is set.
The race was decided in the final quarter of the distance with a fuel‑saving chess match. Christopher Bell, Hamlin's teammate at JGR, moved to the front on lap 138 with an extreme fuel‑saving gamble that forced him to lift off the throttle to make it to the finish without refueling. Hamlin was told to pick up the pace with 20 laps to go and began cutting half a second per lap, just enough to catch Bell with five laps remaining and pass him unopposed. As the cars took the white flag, the Toyota number 20 ran out of fuel and coasted to 26th place after leading 18 laps with a fractured left wrist, an injury he had been carrying since the hard crash with Chase Elliott at Michigan seven days earlier. Bell called the gamble correct and said it was worth the try despite coming away empty‑handed.
Reddick, whose car is co‑owned by Hamlin together with Michael Jordan at 23XI Racing, started 16th and advanced to second place at the finish with a charge that included 81 passes throughout the afternoon. Reddick himself admitted that a restart with a tyre issue cost him ground he could not recover. His 97‑point margin over Hamlin after Michigan shrank to 19 in just two weekends, the tightest gap at the top of the championship so far this season.
William Byron finished third in the Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet, and John Hunter Nemechek scored his first top‑five of the year in the Legacy Motor Club Toyota, a result backed by the 42 laps he led during the race — more than he had led in the entire 2024 and 2025 seasons combined. Kyle Larson completed the top five ahead of Erik Jones, Chris Buescher, Ross Chastain, Ty Gibbs and Ryan Blaney. Todd Gilliland scored the first stage win of his Cup Series career by taking the second segment in the Front Row Motorsports Ford.
Hamlin arrived at Pocono with two straight wins at Nashville and Michigan, the latter achieved by starting from last place after a pre‑race inspection penalty. In 21 years as a full‑time driver, he had never strung together three consecutive victories, a streak that crew chief Chris Gayle attributed to the team's flawless execution. Gayle noted that the car and pit strategy worked with precision all day and that Hamlin is driving with the confidence of someone who knows he has a real chance to win every Sunday. Heather Gibbs, the team owner, pointed out that Hamlin wants to leave a legacy and that the current results only reinforce his presence in the seat.
The playoff standings are tightening with ten races remaining. Shane Van Gisbergen occupies 14th place with a margin of only ten points over Brad Keselowski, who hit the wall on lap 46 and retired. Erik Jones and Austin Cindric are 15th and 16th, both with a four‑point cushion over the elimination line. Joey Logano fell 21 points below the cut after finishing 34th at Pocono. The next Cup Series event will be the first visit to the Coronado Naval Base street circuit in California.
