Joe Gibbs Racing confirmed that Christopher Bell will be at Pocono Raceway for the sixth round of the NASCAR Cup Series despite the left wrist fracture he suffered in last Sunday’s accident at Michigan. X‑rays taken in North Carolina on Monday revealed the extent of the injury, but also gave Bell clearance to climb into the Toyota number 20 this weekend.
The impact that caused the fracture occurred on lap 148 of the FireKeepers Casino 400. Chase Elliott lost the rear of his Chevrolet on the inside of Turn 4, slid up the track and pushed Bell directly into the SAFER barrier. Race control stopped the race for twenty minutes to repair the protective blocks. Elliott approached Bell himself after the medical examination and said it without hesitation in the press conference: "That was totally my mistake. It was a very hard hit for both of us, and especially for Bell."
Team owner Joe Gibbs had spoken cautiously on Sunday: "We're going to make sure he has everything he needs and then we'll have to wait. It's the wrist, so we have to wait." Monday’s medical report cleared up the doubts. Thirty‑six hours after the retirement, JGR released the statement confirming the fracture and the clearance to race.
Bell posted a short message on social media: "Thanks to everyone who reached out to check on me. I'm grateful to my medical team, JGR, NASCAR, and all the drivers before me who helped build the safety standards of our sport. See you at Pocono."
