Alex de Alba, the reigning champion of the NASCAR México Series, scored his first victory of the 2026 season at the Óvalo Aguascalientes México by leading the fifth round of the championship with a charge from eighth on the grid. The #14 car of AGA Racing Team took the lead with just over 20 laps to go and held off Rubén García Jr. in a green‑flag finish. De Alba moved from fourth in the championship to a stronger position heading into the Chase, which in this category awards postseason berths based on wins and accumulated points in the regular season.

Xavi Razo took the pole in the closest qualifying in the history of the series, with an advantage of 0.006 seconds over Rodrigo Rejón and 0.033 over Max Gutiérrez. However, Razo lost pace in the race, and control passed to those who read the oval’s tyre degradation better. De Alba managed the first two segments without taking excessive risks and executed the final part with the aggression needed to beat García Jr., who had started fifth and kept the overall championship lead.

García Jr. entered the round with 173 points, a nine‑point lead over Eloy Falcón and a 14‑point lead over Max Gutiérrez. De Alba had 150 points and needed a strong result to get closer to the positions that guarantee a Chase berth. His victory leaves him in a more comfortable spot. Gutiérrez retired on lap 144 and failed to score, a direct blow to his hopes of fighting for the top spot in the standings. Irwin Vences finished third, and Jake Cosío along with Santiago Tovar completed the top five.

In the Challenge Series, Jorge de la Parra converted pole into victory with a clean, error‑free run. Emiliano Richards was second and retained the category lead, followed by Andrik Dimayuga in third place.

The round featured Brian Weber, an American driver with experience in the ARCA Series who generated buzz in Mexican media during the previous week — something unusual for a series that does not often receive widespread coverage. Weber competed in the #6 car in the Challenge class and finished 25th, five laps behind the leader.

Diego Ortiz, who in the previous round at Puebla drove the #11 car for Ho Speed Racing, did not appear on the entry list for Aguascalientes after announcing his departure from the team following six seasons. His place was taken by Alonso Salinas, a driver who moved up from the Trucks México Series and finished 31st, 67 laps down.

The next race will be on June 27 at the Autódromo de Querétaro, one of three remaining events before the Chase cut‑off.
