Roberto Espinosa obtained his first victory of the season in the Trucks México Series this Sunday, in a race that saw him out front from the pole position and leaves him as the new championship leader after the fourth round of the season at the 2,590‑meter circuit of Autódromo Miguel E. Abed. Espinosa had started among the top three in each of the previous rounds but had not managed to win. The victory in Puebla breaks the streak of Carlos Novelo, who arrived with two consecutive wins and finished fourth.
On Saturday, Espinosa set a 1:11.178 in qualifying and took his third pole in four races. Sunday's race was a mirror of that pace. He broke away from Sebastián Rodríguez, his teammate at Dynamic Motorsports, and held the lead until the mandatory pit stop, where Arturo Vázquez moved to the front for a brief period. Espinosa caught him before the stage on lap 18 and regained the position, never relinquishing it.
A late caution bunched the field, and on the restart Rodríguez made contact with Espinosa, lost second place, and handed it to Santiago Cruz, who had been advancing from the back. Cruz finished second, Edwin Arenas third, Novelo fourth, and Jesús Ruíz fifth. Valeria Aranda, who was two points behind the leader, did not make the top five.
With this result, Espinosa displaces Novelo from the top of the overall standings for the first time this year. The regular season reaches its halfway point with the top seven drivers separated by fewer than 30 points. The fifth round of the Trucks México Series will be on June 6‑7 at the Óvalo Aguascalientes México.
