The second round of the 2026 Trucks México Series at the Súper Óvalo Chiapas was decided between Carlos Novelo and Roberto Espinosa, who had already battled for the lead at the Súper Óvalo Potosino and finished seventh and eighth due to contact between them on the final lap. In Chiapas, Novelo passed Espinosa on lap 109 and took his first victory in the category. Espinosa finished second, Valeria Aranda third, Jan Krüll fourth, and Everardo Fonseca fifth.
Maggio led the first half of the race
Santiago Cruz started from pole with a 27.431, giving him a 124-thousandths advantage over Espinosa in a qualifying session where the top five were separated by less than half a second. Cruz and Espinosa pitted in the early laps to complete their mandatory stop, handing control of the first half of the race to Rafael Maggio. Maggio took the lead from the moment the two pitted and maintained it with good pace until the first Stage on lap 30.
Maggio's stop returned Cruz to the front in the No. 26, with Espinosa and Novelo running close behind, having already completed their mandatory stops. The three ran together for nearly 30 laps until Cruz hit the wall on lap 59 and retired from the race. At San Luis Potosí, Cruz had finished sixth from the second row, so he has now had two races without being able to translate his qualifying speed into a good result on Sunday.
The red flag regrouped everyone on lap 80
A red flag on lap 80 stopped the race when Espinosa was leading with Novelo glued to his rear bumper, and it brought the entire field together for the restart, eliminating any track position advantage Espinosa might have built in the previous laps. The two restarted together and pulled away from the rest of the field with very similar pace for nearly 30 more laps, until Novelo found an opening on lap 109 and completed the pass.
The battle between the two left Aranda with a comfortable third place, two laps back but with no pressure from behind, giving her two podiums in two races and making her the most consistent driver at the start of the season. Krüll, who had retired due to a puncture on lap 76 in the first round, was able to finish this time and took fourth. Fonseca, winner of the first round, finished fifth, much farther from the front than he had been at San Luis Potosí.
Among the rest of the field, Jassyr Salazar and Luis Goulart finished sixth and seventh. Sebastián Rodríguez, who finished second in his debut in the previous race, retired on lap 45 and loses ground in the overall standings. Roqueñí, who had qualified fifth, finished eleventh and was also unable to translate his Saturday performance into the race.
The third round will be on a track new to the series
The eight drivers scoring points for the Chase remain separated by very little in the overall standings. With the win, Novelo recovers what he lost in the first round due to the incident with Espinosa.
The third round will be on April 26th at the Tulum airport, a temporary circuit the series has never visited. The first two races were on ovals, so the change in configuration will force all teams to work without reference times or prior data.
