Justin Allgaier capitalized on two superior restarts in the final 15 laps to win for the fourth time at Darlington Raceway and reach 30 victories in the NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series, tying Joey Logano for seventh on the category's all-time wins list. With this second victory of the 2026 season in the Sport Clips Haircuts VFW Help a Hero 200, Allgaier also became the first repeat winner of the year.
A slow stop cost Larson everything
Kyle Larson started from pole, won both stages, and led the pace for 107 of 147 laps in his Chevrolet No. 88, but a slow stop under the third caution dropped him to fifth for the final restart. That caution came out for a five-car crash on lap 127, when Dean Thompson, Austin Hill, Kyle Sieg, Alex Labbe, and Lavar Scott were taken out or suffered severe damage. With only 15 laps remaining and four cars between him and the lead, Larson could only gain one position and finished fourth.
"It got harder to pass," Larson explained. "At the end, the pace picked up and you get stuck. It's frustrating, but I had a lot of fun today."
Allgaier's team made the difference
Allgaier's team had fast stops all afternoon in the Camaro No. 7, and that was what allowed him to be up front when it mattered. Brandon Jones, first out of the pits on the final two cautions, chose the inside lane for the final restart, but Allgaier passed him from the outside lane with a stronger launch and held the lead to the checkered flag, winning by 0.578 seconds.
"These guys never gave up all year, they won the race," Allgaier said of his pit crew. "We definitely weren't the best all day. Kyle was incredible, he had us covered. Probably one of my worst days here at Darlington."
"Nobody knows, when you get to this stage of your career, how much these wins mean. And for it to be at Darlington, a place I've loved for so long, is really special."
Jones acknowledged the difference was in the restarts. "The 7 had better launches than me from the second lane, and he had a little more power on the short runs," he said. "We matched or were slightly better on the long runs, but we ran out of laps at the end."
JR Motorsports has four consecutive wins
JR Motorsports has now won four consecutive races in the 2026 season. With 306 points and a 52-point advantage over Jesse Love, Allgaier has the championship well in hand six races into the season. Love had his worst result of the year with an 11th-place finish, caused by a spin on pit road during the first stage break that ended his perfect streak of top-10 finishes in every 2026 race.
Christopher Bell finished third and Corey Day was sixth, collecting his fifth consecutive top-10 finish so far in his first full season. In the overall standings, Carson Kvapil moved up to third with 222 points, while Austin Hill dropped two positions to fifth, affected by his involvement in the lap 127 crash that relegated him to 35th place.
The O'Reilly Series races next week at Martinsville Speedway on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET.
