Corey Heim won the Buckle Up South Carolina 200 at Darlington Raceway on Friday, his second consecutive victory at this track and the 24th of his career in 91 races in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. He won from 15th place in overtime with a pit stop that gave him fresher tires than everyone ahead of him, and passed Ross Chastain on the inside in turns 3 and 4 on the final lap by 0.145 seconds.

The move began on lap 145, with the race scheduled for 147 laps and Chastain controlling the front with more than 35 laps led. Heim didn't have the pace to catch him on a clean track, but his team had saved a set of scuffed tires with five fewer laps of wear than the rest of the leaders and decided to put them on with three laps remaining.

"We had a set of scuffs with five fewer laps of use than everybody else. It was worth a shot. I didn't think we could win from where we were."

On the first overtime attempt, he advanced six positions before an incident involving Jake Garcia, Tyler Ankrum, Corey LaJoie, and Stewart Friesen brought out the ninth caution of the night, and he started the final restart from ninth place with the least worn tires of any driver in the front group.

Chastain chose the top and Heim took the race from the bottom

Chastain was leading and chose the top lane on the final lap, and Heim went to the bottom entering turn 3 with five fewer laps of tire wear. "I was surprised Ross gave me the bottom with fresher tires," said Heim.

"I would have run the bottom if I thought anyone was going to be close, but I thought the restart went well for me," said Chastain, who is competing in all three national NASCAR series this weekend and finished second. "I have no idea what happened. We did a lot right."

Kaden Honeycutt earned his first career pole on Friday and led 59 of the 157 laps in the TRICON Garage Toyota No. 11, more than any other driver all night, but finished fourth because he chose the outside lane on both overtime restarts and lost positions both times. The bottom lane was the preferred line all night at Darlington, and Honeycutt knew it. "It was like that all night, obviously," he said. "When the 5 passed me and the 91 was ahead of him, I just focused on helping him to see if he could get to the front." Christian Eckes finished third from 16th on the grid, and Connor Mosack, Christopher Bell, Grant Enfinger, Giovanni Ruggiero, Daniel Hemric, and William Sawalich, who advanced 17 positions, rounded out the top 10.

Heim races wherever there's space on the calendar

Heim does not have a full-time program in any category this year and is not competing for the Truck Series championship. In the Cup Series, he runs 12 races in the No. 67 car for 23XI Racing, the team of Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin, which has him as a development driver with an eye toward a full-time seat in 2027, as the primary spots are already occupied by Bubba Wallace and Tyler Reddick. In 2025, racing full-time with TRICON Garage in the Truck Series, he won 12 races, led 1,625 laps, and won the championship, and now he awaits his turn by splitting races among Trucks, the O'Reilly Auto Parts Series, and Cup.

In Trucks, he has run two races in 2026 and has one victory in the No. 5 truck, different from the No. 11 he drove throughout the 2025 season, which is now driven by Honeycutt. Heim also collected the $50,000 Triple Truck Challenge bonus, and if he races on April 3rd at Rockingham Speedway and wins, he would collect $100,000.

Smith remains first with a 33-point advantage

Chandler Smith finished 17th in the Front Row Motorsports Ford No. 1, far from his usual pace, but the 33-point gap separating him from Honeycutt in the overall standings gives him some breathing room. He has a win at Daytona and points in all four rounds.

Ben Rhodes retired due to a crash on lap 2 and finished last of the 36 entries when he arrived second in the championship with two top 5s in three races. He has had the speed to fight at the front in every race this year but hasn't been able to close one out. In Atlanta, he led a good portion of the race and ran out of fuel near the end; in St. Petersburg, the same happened; and at Darlington, he was out on lap 2.

The series returns on April 3rd at Rockingham Speedway.
