Contact between Roberto Espinosa and Carlos Novelo on the last of 104 laps decided the first race of the 2026 Trucks México Series. The two drivers battling for the lead at the Súper Óvalo Potosino were taken out of contention, and Everardo Fonseca, running immediately behind in the #94, inherited a victory that opens his season with maximum points in Zaragoza, San Luis Potosí.

Sebastián Rodríguez inherited second place in his first race in the series, and Valeria Aranda rounded out the top three. Two of the top five finishers were rookies, with Rodríguez in second and Andrés Tobías in fifth, out of a total of eight new drivers among the 20 entries.

Espinosa and Krüll pitted on the first lap

Espinosa started from pole position in the #96 and decided to pit on the first lap alongside Jan Krüll to complete the mandatory tire change. Both dropped to the back of the field, and Edwin Arenas inherited the lead, which he disputed with Víctor Gama until Carlos Novelo passed them both and took the Stage 1 points.

The gamble to pit on the first lap paid off for Espinosa in the second half of the race, as his better tire condition allowed him to advance from the back of the field and pass Novelo in a direct fight for the lead. Krüll, who had also pitted on the first lap, couldn't capitalize on the same advantage as a puncture took him out of contention on lap 76.

The contact between Espinosa and Novelo on the final lap left them both in seventh and eighth place, one lap down, and handed the race win to Fonseca, who was running immediately behind and crossed the line first, with Rodríguez and Aranda inheriting second and third.

Rodríguez and Girón moved up from Trucks to NASCAR Challenge

Gerardo Rodríguez, the 2025 champion with seven victories, and Mateo Girón, the runner-up with six, graduated from the category and moved up to NASCAR Challenge, leaving the grid in the hands of drivers like Fonseca, who was a championship finalist last year, and Espinosa, Novelo, and Aranda, all three with playoff experience in 2025.

The second round of the calendar will be on March 29th at the Súper Óvalo Chiapas.
