The 104th edition of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb has published its preliminary entry list — updated as of February 9, 2026 — and the main duel is already set: Romain Dumas, five-time King of the Mountain, returns with the electric Ford Super Mustang Mach-E to seek the overall victory that eluded him in 2025 when he finished second on a shortened course. On the other side, Robin Shute — four-time mountain champion — arrives with a completely new prototype, the 2026 Sendycar V1.
There are 75 competitors from 11 countries set to take the start on June 21st in Colorado Springs to tackle the 12.42 miles and 156 turns that separate the start line, at 2,860 meters altitude, from the summit of Pikes Peak at 4,302 meters. Among them are 12 rookies and several names that motorsport fans will recognize from other disciplines.
Dumas Aims to Break His Own Record
The overall Pikes Peak record is still his: 7 minutes, 57.148 seconds, set in 2018 with an electric Volkswagen. But the 2025 overall victory didn't go his way. Dumas will compete in the Unlimited - Production category with the number 125, driving the same Ford Super Mustang Mach-E that Ford has developed as its electric project for this event. The advantage of electric motors at altitude is well known — they don't lose power as elevation increases, unlike combustion engines that suffer from the thin air — and Dumas knows how to exploit that better than anyone on the Pikes Peak grid.
Who Else is on the List
Robin Shute, four-time overall title winner, arrives with a new prototype: the 2026 Sendycar V1, entered in the Unlimited - Super category with the number 49. Shute knows every meter of the course, making him the most direct threat to Dumas in the fight for the overall victory.
The list of 75 entries has several lines worth a second look. JR Hildebrand, with extensive IndyCar experience — including a memorable finish at the 2011 Indianapolis 500 — will drive a 2026 Chevrolet Corvette in Time Attack 1. Katherine Legge, with IndyCar, IMSA, and Le Mans races on her resume, will pilot an Acura Integra Type-S in the same category. Bruce Jouanny, known for his appearances on the Fifth Gear program, will ascend the mountain in a Ligier JS2R.
In the Pikes Peak Open category, there are entries that exemplify the unique spirit of this race: Akira Kameyama will compete in a 1992 Nissan Skyline GT-R, Ben Ryan in a 1968 Plymouth Roadrunner, and Alex Kim presents a 1987 Audi S1 Pikes Peak Tribute. David Hackl has entered a 1983 Audi Quattro. These are cars with history, competing against modern machines on the same mountain.
The EV category has only one entrant so far: Robert Walker with a Hyundai Ioniq 5N. Aside from Dumas with the Ford Mach-E in Unlimited, the electric presence on this preliminary list is minimal.
Schedule and Fan Fest
Practice on the mountain is scheduled for May 30-31 and June 5-7, with inspection and registration from June 16-18. Qualifying will be on June 19th, the same day as the Fan Fest in downtown Colorado Springs, a free event expected to draw around 35,000 people with direct access to the cars and drivers. The 2026 edition takes place in a year with two anniversaries: 250 years of the United States and 150 years of Colorado as a state.
Final qualifying and practice will be on June 19th. Race day: Sunday, June 21, 2026.
