Pascal Wehrlein won the Jeddah E-Prix and snatched the top spot in the Formula E drivers' championship from Nick Cassidy, who had led the standings since at least Miami. The German now has 64 points compared to the New Zealander's 48, building a 16-point advantage with 13 races remaining in the 2026 season. Edoardo Mortara finished second for Mahindra Racing and Mitch Evans was third for Jaguar TCS Racing.

The timing of using the additional 50kW from Attack Mode determined the result. Wehrlein activated this power increase on lap 20, just as he exited his mandatory Pit Boost stop which he had taken on lap 18. This sequence gave him four minutes running at a total of 350kW with a freshly recharged battery, opening an eight-second lead over those who had already used their extra power before the Pit Boost.

Mortara lost victory at the start

Edoardo Mortara started from pole position but locked his front tires at the start. Maximilian Günther took advantage of the error and moved into the lead for DS Penske, although Norman Nato would overtake him on lap 6, putting Nissan as the provisional leader. Wehrlein steadily advanced through the positions, passing Taylor Barnard at the restart when the race was briefly neutralized due to an accident between Pepe Martí and Zane Maloney on lap 2.

The German continued his comeback by passing Günther on lap 14 to move into second place just as the Pit Boost window opened one lap later. That's where the differences began that separated winners from losers in Saudi Arabia.

Günther activated Attack Mode before his Pit Boost

Maximilian Günther was the first to activate Attack Mode on lap 15, attempting to use the extra 50kW to gain positions before his mandatory stop. The gamble didn't pay off because when he exited his Pit Boost, he had already consumed his four minutes of extra power and had no tools to defend against those who still had that resource available. He fell to 11th place without scoring points.

Wehrlein executed the opposite sequence. He entered the Pit Boost without having used Attack Mode, recharged energy during the regulation 30 seconds, and exited with a full battery. He immediately activated the additional 50kW, running at 350kW total and opening a gap over Jake Dennis, Antonio Felix da Costa, and Barnard, who couldn't match that combined power.

Mortara copied the German's strategy but didn't activate his Attack Mode until lap 26, six laps later than Wehrlein. This allowed him to climb from fifth place to second in the final laps, passing Nato and Barnard when they no longer had extra power available. He never seriously threatened Wehrlein, who managed his lead by conserving electrical consumption in the last five laps.

Cassidy loses lead with negative streak

Nick Cassidy arrived in Miami leading the championship with 40 points, two points ahead of Wehrlein who had 38. In two consecutive weekends, the New Zealander has scored only eight points: zero in Miami where he finished 16th and eight in Jeddah with a sixth-place finish. Wehrlein accumulated 41 points in that same period with a third place in Miami and victory with the fastest lap in Jeddah, snatching the championship lead from him.

The gap is 16 points with 13 races remaining, equivalent to a second-place finish versus a retirement. Nico Müller finished fourth in Jeddah and has 45 points, sitting 19 units behind the German leader. Mortara has 47 points in third place, just two points more than Müller.

Mitch Evans started from 12th position and finished third using a late Attack Mode like Mortara, securing his second consecutive podium in Miami and Jeddah. The New Zealander has 41 points in fifth place individually. Antonio Felix da Costa was fifth in the race, adding 10 points, bringing his total to 14 points, insufficient to sustain Jaguar's aspirations in the teams' championship where his teammate Evans carries the majority of the score.

Porsche opens 50-point gap in teams' standings

In the teams' championship, Porsche accumulates 109 points compared to 59 for Mahindra Racing and 56 for Citroën, a 50-point advantage built on consistent podiums and points from Wehrlein and Müller in every race. Jaguar climbed to fourth place with 55 points thanks to Evans' two consecutive podiums, although da Costa contributes only 14 units to the British team's total.

In the manufacturers' standings, Porsche has 125 points over Jaguar's 81, a 44-point gap after four rounds. Stellantis, which groups the results of Citroën and DS Penske, has 77 points in third place. There are 13 double-headers left to close the season, each offering up to 58 points available per team if they place their two drivers in a 1-2 finish.

Oliver Rowland finished 17th in Saudi Arabia, his worst result of the year with Nissan. He dropped from third to seventh place individually with 34 points. Sébastien Buemi was seventh in Jeddah and has 19 points for Envision Racing. Jake Dennis scored two points finishing ninth for Andretti Formula E.
