Emiliano Richards won the GTM Pro 1 championship with a pass on Salvador de Alba on the final lap at Autódromo Monterrey. The move earned him the 2025 season title of the Súper Copa Roshfrans by an 8.5-point margin over De Alba, who lost the chance to secure his sixth championship in the category.
The decisive moment came when both drivers caught a lapped competitor in the final corners of the circuit in Monterrey. Richards found the gap between the slow car and De Alba, dove the #8 car in, and completed the overtake he needed. De Alba had no answer and finished second, watching another title slip away after accumulating 13 wins during the season.
"If people knew how hard I fought to make this dream come true, to be here, it's indescribable. All this sacrifice is worth it today. Beating Salvador fills me with pride because he is a great champion," Richards declared after the race.
Decisive Race in Monterrey
Richards arrived at the final round with 732 points against De Alba's 723.5. The 8.5-point difference meant Richards could lose the final race and still win the championship, but he chose to attack rather than manage the gap.
De Alba won the first race of the weekend in Monterrey, keeping his mathematical chances alive for the second competition. In that decisive race, both drivers engaged in an intense duel until the final laps, when they caught a lapped competitor. Richards capitalized on that situation, passed De Alba, and won the race that gave him the title.
The Backstory: Disqualification in Aguascalientes
This tight outcome has its origin in the disqualification De Alba suffered at the Aguascalientes round on June 28th and 29th. The organization detected an unauthorized modification to the engine of the #1 car during post-event inspection, a penalty that cost him 100 points and the championship lead.
De Alba had arrived in Aguascalientes with six consecutive wins. He won both races that weekend, extending his streak to eight straight victories. The disqualification nullified those two results and knocked him off the top of the standings.
Richards inherited the lead with 462 points against De Alba's 400, a 62-point advantage that was reduced to the final 8.5 points. Without that June penalty, De Alba would have arrived in Monterrey with over a 90-point lead over Richards, practically with the championship in hand.
De Alba tried to reverse the situation after the disqualification. He won four consecutive races at the Chihuahua and Puebla rounds in September, accumulating 13 wins for the season. The streak brought him closer in the championship, recovering 53.5 of the 62 lost points, but it wasn't enough to regain the lead before Monterrey.
Paul Jourdain finished third in the championship with 642 points, followed by Gerardo Nieto with 602 points. Jourdain also finished third in both races of the weekend in Monterrey.
De Alba Wins in Trucks
In the Truck category, De Alba got his revenge by winning the championship with the #48 truck. Santiago Tovar won the final race in Monterrey, but De Alba accumulated enough points throughout the season to take the title. Tovar finished second in the championship and Juan Cantú third.
"I'm happy with how this season went in the trucks and for winning the 2025 championship. It was a complicated race, but we managed to stay focused," De Alba commented after winning the title in this category.
