Gerardo Rodríguez won the Trucks Mexico Series final this Sunday at the Miguel E. Abed International Autodrome in Puebla and was crowned champion for the first time in his career. Rodríguez secured his seventh victory of the 2025 season, defeating Mateo Girón in a finish decided under a green-white-checkered format.

In 2024, Rodríguez had won the final race but was disqualified weeks later for a part that was not compliant with the regulations. The ten-position penalty handed the championship to Alonso Salinas. This Sunday in Puebla, Gerardo finally managed to be crowned officially.

The 60-lap race on the 2,060-meter Puebla oval decided the championship among four finalists with mathematical chances: Rodríguez, Girón, Everardo Fonseca, and Carlos Novelo. The playoff system equalized the points, determining that the highest finisher among the four in this event would be crowned champion.

Gerardo held the lead during the first Stage with Girón chasing him closely in the #5. The competition was interrupted on lap 33 by a severe incident that completely altered the course of the final. Alexandra Mohnhaupt rolled the #95 truck after contact with Valeria Aranda. The accident knocked both drivers out of the competition and generated an extensive red flag. The rescue and track cleanup work lasted several minutes, modifying the final race strategy.

On lap 42, Carlos Novelo lost control of the #18 truck and impacted with Sol Díaz. The contact knocked both drivers out of the race under a yellow flag, eliminating Novelo from the title contention. The delays from the two accidents shortened the scheduled duration of the competition. The organization decided the championship using the green-white-checkered format, guaranteeing the title would be decided with the track under clean racing conditions.

Rodríguez withstood the final pressure from Girón and crossed the finish line first under the green flag, completing a season of seven victories that delivered his first official title in the Trucks Mexico Series. Mateo Girón finished second and Santiago Cruz finished third. Girón had won the 2025 Regular Season championship with six victories, dominating much of the campaign before the playoffs.

The difference between the two drivers was defined in the playoffs. Rodríguez added two additional victories in the final phase: the semifinal in Aguascalientes and this decisive race in Puebla, reaching seven total wins against six by Girón in the entire 2025 season. Rodríguez and Girón were the only drivers to win races during the year, splitting the 13 victories of the season.

Everardo Fonseca finished fourth in the final. The four finalists had arrived in Puebla with mathematical chances to be crowned, but the playoff format stipulated that the highest finisher among the four in this race would win the title. Alexandra Mohnhaupt made history in the Trucks Mexico Series by becoming the first woman to win the Rookie of the Year title, although she was knocked out of the final by her rollover on lap 33. Mohnhaupt was the rookie driver with the best performance during the 2025 season.

Mohnhaupt had qualified for the playoffs as a wild card by defeating Rafael Maggio in the final regular season event, but was eliminated in the Aguascalientes semifinal. In the Puebla final, the driver retired after the accident with Aranda. Valeria Aranda retired after her involvement in the incident with Mohnhaupt. Aranda had qualified third in the regular season championship but was eliminated in the Aguascalientes semifinal.

Roberto Espinosa completed the top five of the final race. Espinosa had qualified fourth in the regular season championship but was eliminated in the Aguascalientes semifinal.
