Austin Hill captured his second win of the year at Talladega Superspeedway, controlling the final two laps in overtime to claim the United Rentals 250 in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. Hill led 48 of the 100 total laps, more than any other competitor in Saturday's race.

The victory guarantees that RCR will have a spot in the Championship 4 for owners, an important consolation considering Hill was eliminated from the individual playoffs in the previous round. Hill beat Carson Kvapil of JR Motorsports in a close finish.

Hill now has 10 career wins on superspeedways, breaking the previous record of eight wins shared by Dale Earnhardt and Tony Stewart. This mark solidifies him as the most successful driver on this type of track in NASCAR history.

Kvapil Advances to Championship 4 with Second Place

Carson Kvapil's second-place finish was decisive for his championship aspirations. Kvapil climbed to fourth place in the playoff standings, securing his spot in the Championship 4 that will be decided at Phoenix Raceway next month.

Justin Allgaier finished third, a result that also earned him enough points to mathematically clinch a spot in the Championship 4. The defending champion has three wins in 2025 and holds second place in the playoffs, just behind Connor Zilisch.

Christian Eckes finished fourth in his Kaulig Racing Chevrolet, recording his sixth top-five of the year. Caesar Bacarella rounded out the top five with his best career finish for Alpha Prime Racing.

Connor Zilisch Advances Despite Accident

Connor Zilisch suffered his worst result of the year, finishing 23rd, three laps down after being involved in an accident in the closing laps. Zilisch had maintained a streak of 18 consecutive top-five finishes that was snapped in Alabama.

Despite the setback, the regular season champion accumulated enough points to mathematically secure his place in the Championship 4. Zilisch leads the playoffs with 10 wins in 2025 and a seven-point lead over Allgaier.

Jesse Love Maintains Comfortable Playoff Position

Jesse Love, Hill's teammate at RCR, led 19 laps before deciding to pit for fuel during the caution that preceded overtime. The strategy relegated him to tenth place, but he maintains third place in the playoffs with a 40-point cushion above the elimination line.

"It was a tough decision to come for fuel, but I had to trust my instinct because I didn't know if I would make it on laps," Love explained. "I think we had a car as good as the 21 (Hill), maybe he was just a bit more aggressive than me."

Sammy Smith Climbs in the Standings

Sammy Smith in the No. 8 for JR Motorsports finished ninth, a result that catapulted him from the last position among the eight playoff drivers to fifth place. Smith now trails Kvapil for the crucial fourth position by just 11 points.

Multi-Car Accident Eliminates Title Contenders

A multi-car accident on lap 15 eliminated several title contenders. Sheldon Creed and Sam Mayer, both from Haas Factory Team, suffered severe damage that forced them to retire.

Creed finished 34th while Mayer was classified 38th, results that put them considerably further from the transfer zone. Brandon Jones of Joe Gibbs Racing was also affected by the incident but managed to continue, finishing 26th.

Hill Responds to July Penalty with Important Victory

Although he lost 21 playoff points due to the NASCAR penalty in July, Hill found a way to keep RCR relevant in the championship battle. The penalty eliminated him from the individual playoffs, but it didn't prevent the team from qualifying for the owners' Championship 4.

The incident that caused the penalty occurred on July 26 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, when Hill made contact with the rear of Aric Almirola during the Pennzoil 250, sending him into the wall. NASCAR suspended him for the race at Iowa Speedway two days after the announcement.

Martinsville Will Decide the Two Remaining Spots

The final two spots for the Championship 4 will be decided next Saturday at Martinsville Speedway during the IAA and Ritchie Bros. 250. Brandon Jones sits in sixth place, 20 points below the transfer zone, while Sam Mayer fell to seventh place with a 22-point deficit.

Sheldon Creed will need a win at Martinsville to keep his championship hopes alive, as he finds himself 41 points below the cutline in eighth position.
