Connor Zilisch was controlling the Focused Health 302 when Aric Almirola found the opening he needed. With nine laps to go at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Almirola attacked on the low line while Zilisch struggled with a loose car, completing the pass that would give him his third win of 2025 and the tenth of his career in the Xfinity Series.

Saturday's battle between the 41-year-old veteran and the 19-year-old championship leader ended with Almirola leading 107 of the 201 total laps. The victory for the #19 Toyota from Joe Gibbs Racing secures a spot in the Owner Championship Four for the finale at Phoenix on November 1.

"Our car was good, really good, but the longer I ran, the tighter it got," explained Almirola. "On that restart [with 23 laps to go] I started incredibly tight and couldn't go forward, but I was able to chase down the 88 [Zilisch]. He looked pretty loose and I was able to capitalize on that."

18 Consecutive Top-5 Finishes for Zilisch

Zilisch's streak now reaches record territory in the series: 18 consecutive races finishing in the top five. In 11 of the last 13 races, he has finished first or second. The numbers are impressive, but that didn't console the JR Motorsports youngster after the race.

"The frustration comes from the fact that this means so much to me and the opportunity to secure a spot in Phoenix," Zilisch said over the radio during the cool-down lap, apologizing to his team. "I gave it my all and drove as hard as I could. But I guess that's all we had today. I just have to do a better job."

Zilisch's advantage in the Playoff standings grew to 82 points above the cutline. Justin Allgaier, who started from the pole and is the defending winner of this race, finished third and maintains a 44-point cushion. Sam Mayer finished ninth and is fourth in points, eight units above the cutoff.

Love Loses Positions in Incident with Sanchez

Jesse Love had led 22 laps in the #2 Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing and was running in the top three when everything changed in the closing laps. Contact with Nick Sanchez relegated him to sixth place and sparked a heated exchange on pit road.

"I had words with him and obviously I'm extremely angry," stated Love, who is now 20 points above the cutline. "It was my fault for being in that position racing with him... I don't crash into people or put people in bad positions for no reason and that's why I'm upset. I did a lot of really good things tonight and a lot of really bad things tonight."

Sanchez, fifth in the race but already eliminated from the Playoffs, defended his driving: "I was just racing hard and even though I'm no longer eligible for the Playoffs, I still intend to compete hard for wins in these final races."

Five Drivers Below the Cut Line

Brandon Jones (13th at Las Vegas) dropped to fifth in points at minus-eight. Sheldon Creed needs to recover 21 points after finishing 11th on Saturday. Carson Kvapil and Sammy Smith are 22 and 24 points below the cutline after finishing 15th and 20th respectively.

Corey Day finished fourth for Hendrick Motorsports. Ryan Sieg, Taylor Gray, and Austin Hill rounded out the top-10.

The race had four caution flags for 22 laps and 15 lead changes among nine drivers. Besides Almirola (107 laps), Zilisch (34), and Love (22), other drivers who led were Justin Allgaier (28 laps), Daniel Hemric (4), Daniel Dye (2), Kyle Sieg (2), Nick Sanchez (1), and Brandon Jones (1).

Talladega Superspeedway is the Next Stop

Next Saturday's United Rentals 250 at Talladega (4 p.m. ET, CW Network) is one of the most unpredictable challenges of the season on the 2.66-mile oval in Alabama. Sammy Smith, who is now below the cut line, is the defending winner.
