NASCAR penalized Carson Hocevar on Wednesday with a $50,000 fine for compromising the safety of safety personnel during the Hollywood Casino 400 at Kansas Speedway. This is the second major fine for the #77 Spire Motorsports driver in 2025, after his team fined him the same amount in June for comments about Mexico.
The Incident in Kansas
The incident occurred at the end of a disastrous race for Hocevar, who was running in the top 10 before being involved in three separate accidents. First, he hit J.J. Yeley, causing the fifth caution flag. Later, he was caught in an 11-car multi-car crash during a restart, triggered by contact from Ross Chastain. On lap 260 of 273, Chris Buescher hit him, causing a spin on the backstretch with all four tires destroyed.
When the safety team arrived to assess the stranded Chevrolet, Hocevar repeatedly revved the engine and spun the wheels trying to rejoin the race. "All four are flat, I can't move, dammit. It's frustrating," he said over the radio to his team. Track personnel towed the car to the garage. Hocevar returned after changing tires and finished 29th out of 37 cars, four laps down.

Penalty for Code of Conduct Violation
NASCAR invoked sections 4.4.B and 4.4.D of the Member Code of Conduct, which establish fines between $50,000 and $100,000 for "actions that compromise the safety of an event or create dangerous risk for competitors, officials, spectators, or others." These clauses also authorize race suspensions and prohibition from competing in events for serious violations.
Second Major Penalty in Three Months
In June, Spire Motorsports fined Hocevar $50,000 for derogatory comments about Mexico City during a Twitch broadcast prior to an Xfinity race. The team directed the fine to Mexican organizations, and Hocevar completed cultural sensitivity training.
The two fines total $100,000, although they come from different entities: the one from NASCAR for compromising personnel safety and the one from the team for off-track conduct. NASCAR has not indicated if this penalty places Hocevar under disciplinary probation or if he faces potential additional measures for future infractions.
Hocevar will compete this Sunday at the Charlotte Roval.
