Paul Jourdain and Emiliano Richards won the two GTM Pro 1 races in the sixth round of the 2025 Super Copa Roshfrans, held on Saturday, August 16th at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico City, where Richards extended his championship lead following the mechanical retirement of Salvador de Alba Jr.
Salvador de Alba Jr. sets the pace in qualifying but is left unrewarded
Salvador de Alba Jr. had demonstrated the potential of the Mercedes number 1 by leading both Friday qualifying sessions. The driver needed to maximize points after a 100-point penalty took him out of the championship lead following the technical inspection from Aguascalientes. The strategy seemed to be working in the first 40-minute race that started at 9:35 AM, but an early mechanical failure forced the pole-sitter to retire.
Paul Jourdain inherited the lead from the second row and maintained the necessary pace to complete the race in 38:53.235, followed by Pablo Pérez de Lara 5.958 seconds behind. Paul Jourdain explained that he regrets what happened to Salvador de Alba Jr. because part of this victory is also due to the retirement of the reigning champion, as he stated after his first victory at Hermanos Rodríguez.
Richards executes a perfect race in the afternoon
The second competition started at 2:20 PM with a larger crowd attendance. Emiliano Richards maintained control from the first lap and managed the gaps to Michel Jourdain, who finished second, 1.871 seconds behind. Salvador de Alba Jr. salvaged a podium finish, 2.887 seconds back, after recovering from the issue in the first race. Richards clocked a time of 38:59.863 in a race without major incidents. The driver commented that there are three rounds left until the end and the goal is the championship.
Salvador de Alba Jr. bounces back in tractor trucks with number 48
The tractor truck category provided a chance for redemption for Salvador de Alba Jr., who controlled the race from the start with the number 48. Santiago Tovar and Juan Cantú pressured until the end, but the driver held his positions to win authoritatively. Salvador de Alba Jr. explained that the victory helps him extend his lead a bit more in first place of the championship. Paul Jourdain and Enrique Dueñas completed the top five.
Impact on the standings with 100 points lost by Salvador de Alba Jr.
Emiliano Richards had arrived in Mexico as the leader with 462 points, benefiting from the disqualification of Salvador de Alba Jr. for an unauthorized engine modification detected in Aguascalientes. The sanction, confirmed on August 13th, cost the driver 100 points corresponding to both victories from that round. Salvador de Alba Jr. had completed eight consecutive victories before the penalty, maintaining a perfect record that included the first six rounds of the season.
With his second victory, Richards extends the lead over Paul Jourdain, while Salvador de Alba Jr. needs a perfect streak to recover the lost ground. The 62-point difference at the start of the weekend has widened further after the results in Mexico City. The technical sanction completely changed the structure of the 2025 Super Copa Roshfrans with three rounds remaining.
