Gerardo Rodríguez returned to victory lane in the ninth round of the Trucks México Series held this Sunday at the Súper Óvalo Potosino. The driver of the #26 won in San Luis Potosí and secured his fourth victory of the year, bouncing back from his disappointing performance in Puebla where he had taken pole position but finished 12th.

State Civil Protection and municipal authorities from Villa de Zaragoza temporarily closed the racetrack during the weekend due to property-related issues, canceling Saturday morning's qualifying session. The situation forced organizers to set the starting grid based on championship standings, placing points leader Mateo Girón (#5) on the front row alongside Rodríguez. This format created anticipation for the direct duel between the two championship favorites.

Gerardo Rodríguez dominates first 40 laps and wins opening stage

The green flag waved at 11:30 AM under the high temperatures that characterized Sunday's event. Rodríguez controlled the race from the first lap and managed his advantage throughout the 40-lap opening segment, securing the additional stage points.

Local driver Roberto "Bob" Espinosa (#96) used the stage break to take the lead. The hometown driver pressured the Guadalajara native in a battle that kept local fans entertained, as they hoped for their representative's first win of the season.

Caution flag sets up final duel between Rodríguez and Roberto Espinosa

A yellow flag with just three laps remaining completely changed the final outlook. The restart established the definitive head-to-head battle between Rodríguez and Espinosa for the 25 points awarded to the race winner.

A clean restart allowed the Guadalajara driver to maintain his lead. Espinosa applied pressure all the way to the checkered flag but couldn't complete the pass that would have given him his first home victory of the year.

Mateo Girón rounded out the podium in third place, maintaining his perfect streak of top-three finishes in all nine races so far. The result allows him to retain the championship lead, though Rodríguez gained significant ground in the regular season title fight.

This victory contrasts with the Puebla race where Girón had scored his third consecutive win at that track while Rodríguez fell from pole to 12th place.

Eduardo de la Rosa (#3) and Santiago Cruz (#25) completed the top 5 in San Luis Potosí. Santiago Torre (#14) led the rookie contingent by finishing sixth, followed by Rafael Maggio (#67) and Alexandra Monhnaupt (#95).

Next stop in Querétaro will conclude regular season

The regular season semifinal will take place on September 21 when the series returns to Autódromo de Querétaro. This event will determine which drivers advance to the playoff phase that will crown the 2025 champion.
