Gerardo "Chispa" Rodríguez scored his third consecutive victory in the Trucks México Series after winning on Saturday at Autódromo Monterrey. With this result, the #26 driver edges closer to the record of four consecutive wins held by overall leader Mateo Girón.
Rodríguez delivered a solid performance in the 70-lap race at the Monterrey circuit, where temperatures reached 35 degrees Celsius. The driver took the lead in the first turns and maintained it until the finish.
Novelo lost pole position advantage
Carlos Novelo had secured pole position on Friday with a 40.921-second lap in the #18 truck, becoming the only driver to break the 41-second barrier. However, he lost his advantage at the start when Rodríguez overtook him in the opening turns.
Novelo ended up battling for third place with Valeria Aranda in a duel that added excitement to a race otherwise dominated by Rodríguez from the front.
Girón maintains championship lead but gap narrows
Mateo Girón's second-place finish in the #5 truck allowed him to retain his championship lead, though his advantage has shrunk. The Zacatecas native, who had won four of the first six races, now sees his closest rival closing in on the championship.
"We always want the win, but this time I think the most important thing is that we maintained our podium position," Girón stated after the race.
Puebla will be crucial for the championship
The next round will be on July 20 at Autódromo Internacional Miguel E. Abed in Puebla. Girón returns to the track where he scored his most recent victory, while Rodríguez will aim to match the four-race winning streak record.
"The most important stage is coming up, we need to finish strong to first secure the Regular Season," commented Girón.
If Rodríguez wins in Puebla and Girón fails to score significant points, the battle for the championship will intensify in the remaining rounds of the regular season.
