Layne Riggs took the lead of the MillerTech Battery 200 when Corey Heim suffered a flat tire with 19 laps to go at Pocono Raceway. The Ford #34 from Front Row Motorsports maintained the advantage until the checkered flag and beat Tanner Gray by 3.64 seconds to achieve his first victory of 2025.

Heim led 48 laps before the failure

The championship leader had taken control of the race in the Toyota #11 and set a new series record with 12 stage wins. Heim seemed on track to repeat his 2024 performance at the 2.5-mile oval where he had won both stages and the overall race.

The flat tire came at the worst possible moment for the current points leader, who had to pit just before the critical restart.

Penalty changes the landscape

Carson Hocevar tried to advance during the restart when Heim left the track, but officials penalized him for procedure violation. Riggs was running second at the time of the incident and became the control driver.

"I'm sorry the #11 had problems and I'm not sure what the seven was doing on the restart, but I made sure to take the opportunity," explained the son of Scott Riggs. "Last year we crashed in practice, didn't qualify, and finished last. Today we were the best."

Gray pressured but couldn't catch up

The Toyota from TRICON Garage maintained pressure during the final 20 laps but couldn't close the gap. Riggs managed lapped traffic perfectly and crossed the finish line with a comfortable lead.

Kaden Honeycutt completed the podium in the Chevrolet #45 from Niece Motorsports, followed by Brandon Jones and Daniel Hemric in the top five.

Championship standings

Heim finished 23rd but maintains the overall points lead with 124 points over Chandler Smith. The victory allows Riggs to secure the seventh playoff spot with his third career win.

Four regular season races remain before the playoffs. The series will visit Lime Rock Park in Connecticut for the first time for the LIUNA 150 on Saturday, June 28 at 1:00 p.m. ET on FOX.
