Penske sweeps the front row at WWTR, with Will Power taking pole position.

The record Penske breaks with this classification

Will Power averaged 180.329 mph during Saturday's qualifying at World Wide Technology Raceway, securing his first pole since Iowa 2023. The #12 Verizon Team Penske driver led a complete team front row with Scott McLaughlin second at 179.783 mph in the #3 DEX Imaging car.

Power's 71st career pole extended his series record, while for Penske it marked their 700th pole across all racing categories. McLaughlin will join his teammate on the front row for Sunday's 260-lap race.

Conditions favor late qualifiers

Cloud cover during the session reduced track temperatures by nearly 10 degrees, benefiting drivers who ran later in the 27-car qualifying order. Pato O'Ward took advantage to place third in the #5 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet at 179.190 mph.

"I knew I had to risk a lot," Power explained after the session. "I had to go nearly flat out in turns 3 and 4. Not completely, but very, very close. It's been a while since I got a pole, so I'm really happy."

Penske-Foyt technical alliance pays off

David Malukas placed fourth in the #4 Clarience Technologies car for A.J. Foyt Enterprises, which maintains a technical alliance with Penske. Malukas recorded 179.079 mph, followed by Josef Newgarden in fifth with the #2 PPG Team Penske at 178.910 mph.

Newgarden, the record five-time winner at WWTR, completed a top 5 dominated by Chevrolet engines. Marcus Armstrong was the fastest Honda in sixth with Meyer Shank Racing's #66 SiriusXM/Root Insurance car.

Palou looks to continue streak from ninth

Current points champion Alex Palou will start ninth after posting 178.381 mph in the #10 Ridgeline Chip Ganassi Racing Honda. Palou has won five of seven races this season and will look to extend his dominance from a deeper starting position.

For Team Penske, Sunday's race represents an opportunity to break their 2025 win drought. The team's three drivers have only managed third-place finishes as their best results so far.

Broadcast coverage begins Sunday at 8:00 p.m. ET on FOX, with the season's second oval event promising 260 laps of action on the 1.25-mile oval.
