Daniel Suárez claimed victory in the NASCAR Xfinity Series by winning The Chilango 150 at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. The Monterrey driver completed an impressive comeback from 39th position to first place, beating Taylor Gray by 0.598 seconds at the finish line.

Backup car after morning crash

The #9 car from JR Motorsports suffered severe damage during Saturday morning's qualifying session. Suárez lost control before entering the GNP Stadium section and crashed head-on into the safety barriers, forcing the team to prepare the backup car for the 65-lap race. The Mexican led 19 laps on the 3.9-kilometer circuit.

Decisive move with 19 laps to go

The race was decided on the final stage restart. Suárez, who restarted fourth, executed a three-wide move on the outside of Turn 1 to take the lead. The maneuver caused a multi-car crash that eliminated Connor Zilisch and Ty Gibbs, the two fastest cars throughout the day.

The final restart came with seven laps remaining after a Jesse Love incident. Gray closed dangerously on Suárez in Turns 1 and 2, making contact that sent the Mexican off-track, but he maintained the lead. On the final lap, Gray attempted a pass in the last corner but couldn't complete the move.

Mexican drivers make national debut

Andrés Pérez de Lara completed his first Xfinity Series race in the #91 DGM Racing car. The full-time Truck Series driver finished 30th, one lap down, after a solid debut performance.

Rubén Rovelo, 2020 NASCAR Mexico champion, couldn't complete his debut due to mechanical issues that caused a mid-race crash. The driver finished 37th with only 43 laps completed.

Austin Hill completes Mexican podium

Austin Hill (#21) finished third with a consistent race, followed by Christian Eckes (#19) in fourth. Connor Zilisch (#88) salvaged fifth place despite damage from the final stage crash, even recording the fastest lap of the race at 93.58 seconds.

William Sawalich, Austin Green, Jeb Burton, Harrison Burton and Sammy Smith completed the top 10 in a race that marked the return of Xfinity Series to Mexico after 17 years. The previous best result by a Mexican in the series had been Jorge Goeters' seventh place in 2007.

Daniel Suárez qualified 10th for Sunday's Cup race and will look to repeat his Xfinity performance in the premier series, where 37 cars will take the green flag. The Mexican will attempt to secure his second national victory in less than 24 hours.
