Rubén Rovelo received a last-minute invitation from the Joey Gase team to compete in the NASCAR Xfinity Series this weekend at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. The 2020 champion of the NASCAR Mexico Series will drive the Chevrolet #35 on Saturday, June 14th. It was a surprising, last-minute invitation from Joey Gase. "I couldn't pass up this opportunity," explained Rovelo, who has 26 wins in the Mexican championship, a record he shares as the all-time winningest driver.

Third Mexican driver in Xfinity Series

Rovelo becomes the third confirmed Mexican driver for "The Chilango 150" on Saturday, June 14th at 2:30 PM. He'll share the grid with Daniel Suárez, who returns to Xfinity after winning the 2016 championship, and Andrés Pérez de Lara, 2024 ARCA champion.

The driver acknowledges the limitations of express preparation. "Being a last-minute invitation, I'll be at a disadvantage since I don't know the car. Even so, I'll give my best effort and take full advantage of knowing the track perfectly," he stated.

Realistic expectations for debut

Rovelo adjusts his expectations for this first experience in the Xfinity Series. "I like to go in with a winning mentality - I've always been characterized by seeking victory at all costs, but this time I need to keep my feet on the ground," he commented.

"Getting a top-10 would feel like a victory, though we know just making it into the top-20 will be a challenge," added the Mexican driver.

Historic moment for NASCAR

This weekend marks the first time the NASCAR Cup Series will hold a points race outside the United States. NASCAR Xfinity returns to Mexico after competing at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez between 2005 and 2008.
