Sébastien Ogier won the Rally Italia Sardegna for the fifth time after overcoming a spin in the final stage that reduced his lead over Ott Tänak to 7.9 seconds. The Frenchman becomes the most successful driver in the event since the WRC has been visiting the Italian island.

The victory came twelve months after losing the win by 0.2 seconds to the same Tänak due to a puncture in the final stage of 2024. This time, Ogier built an 11.1-second lead that he carried into Sunday after snatching the lead from Adrien Fourmaux on Friday night.

Panic in Wolf Power Stage almost costs him the win

With a 17.1-second lead at the start of the final stage, Ogier seemed headed for a comfortable victory when the deep ruts in the new special stage caused his GR Yaris not to turn in a tight corner near the end. The eight-time world champion had to stop and reverse.

In the ruts, I simply couldn't turn the car. There was no speed at all, so I didn't try to force it - I preferred to stop and reverse. It wasn't ideal and cost us some Sunday points, but we had enough margin to achieve our main goal which was to win.

The incident cut his lead by more than half, but he preserved the necessary seconds to seal his third victory in four starts this season.

Rovanperä extracts maximum points from Super Sunday

Kalle Rovanperä finished third, 50.5 seconds behind, after climbing from fifth position on Friday. The Finn executed a smart race and saved his best pace for the Power Stage, where he recorded a time 8.1 seconds faster than his rivals to take the extra points from Super Sunday.

Evans maintains championship lead despite road-opening

Elfyn Evans finished fourth after suffering the toughest task of opening the road on Friday. The Welshman lost nearly two minutes changing a wheel on Saturday afternoon, but a patient approach allowed him to maintain the championship lead with a 19-point advantage over Ogier and 20 over Rovanperä.

Katsuta completes top five after Friday roll

Takamoto Katsuta lost time with a low-speed roll on Friday and another stop to change a wheel on Saturday, but he finished fifth overall. The Japanese driver had additional problems in the Power Stage where he got stuck in loose surface at the end of the stage.

Sami Pajari had been running fourth at the end of Friday in his TGR-WRT2 entry, but he also lost time changing a wheel on Saturday before spinning in the first stage on Sunday and damaging his suspension, finishing seventh.

Daprá achieves first WRC2 home victory

Roberto Daprá from ACI Team Italia took advantage of a string of misfortunes to achieve his first WRC2 victory. The Italian started Sunday fifth in class when Emil Lindholm was comfortably leading.

Lindholm crashed in SS14 after overshooting a braking point over a crest and beaching his Škoda. This promoted Lauri Joona to the lead, who suffered a left rear puncture in the following stage. Kajetan Kajetanowicz also punctured in SS15, elevating Daprá from third to first.

Toyota extends constructors' lead to 69 points

Toyota GAZOO Racing maintains its perfect record with six rallies won in six contested in 2025. The team increased its lead in the constructors' championship to 69 points with all five of its cars finishing without retirements.

The championship continues with the EKO Acropolis Rally Greece from June 26-29, based in Lamia.
