Alex de Alba Jr. claimed his second victory of the season during this Sunday's event at Querétaro Racetrack. The driver from San Luis Potosí capitalized when José Luis Ramírez ran out of fuel two laps before the finish to cross the finish line first in the "Querétaro 200".
Saturday's practice had shown the potential of car #14 by setting the fastest lap time. De Alba Jr. was the only driver to break the 29-second barrier with a lap of 28.941 seconds, securing his second pole position of the season.
Mechanical issues alter race development
The first 65 laps were interrupted by two incidents requiring red flags. Irwin Vences (#47) suffered an engine failure that spilled oil on the track, while Rafael Vallina (#0) lost control in turn 1 without physical consequences for the driver from Chihuahua.
The first segment ended with de Alba Jr. taking the bonus points, followed by Eloy Sebastián and Xavi Razo. In the Challenge category, Helio Meza maintained his leading position alongside Giancarlo Vecchi and Koke de la Parra.
Position swaps in the final stretch
The second half saw several lead changes. Eliud Treviño (#26) briefly took the lead after pit stops, quickly yielding the position to José Luis Ramírez (#08). The driver from Monterrey engaged in a close battle with de Alba Jr. and Xavi Razo until the final laps.
When everything pointed to a showdown between Ramírez and de Alba Jr., car #08 stopped due to fuel shortage, allowing the Potosí driver to cross the line unchallenged for his second win of the year. Abraham Calderón (#2) climbed from last position to finish second, while Julio Rejón (#55) completed the podium in front of his home crowd in Querétaro.
Meza perfect in Challenge from pole
Helio Meza (#27) of Alessandros Racing executed a perfect race in the Challenge category. He maintained his category lead throughout all 140 laps and even fought for positions in the overall top five, finishing fourth absolute.
This victory automatically earns him a spot in the Challenge playoffs.
I have no words to express what I'm feeling. A thousand thanks to the team for giving me a car I could push to the limit
Giancarlo Vecchi (#75) and Diego Ortiz (#11) joined Meza on the Challenge podium. Vecchi mentioned that yellow flags affected his race pace, while Ortiz highlighted the work of the HO Speed Racing team.
Rovelo sets fastest lap
Rubén Rovelo (#28) recorded the fastest lap at 29.491 seconds despite suffering contacts that dashed his podium hopes. The Alessandros Racing driver finished fifth after receiving a penalty that forced a pit stop.
The next event will be the NASCAR Mexico City Weekend on June 13-14 at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, where NASCAR Mexico Series will share the track with NASCAR Cup and NASCAR Xfinity in a double-header weekend.
