Ryan Blaney ended his winless drought by dominating the Cracker Barrel 400 at Nashville Superspeedway, completing a commanding performance that secured his spot in the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series playoffs.
The 2023 champion controlled the race early, leading 139 of the 300 total laps to win by 2.830 seconds over Spire Motorsports' Carson Hocevar. The victory marks the first win of the year for the driver of the #12 Ford for Team Penske, following a season plagued by adversity.
Blaney's celebration showed the release of months of built-up frustration. The 31-year-old driver climbed onto his Ford, raised his arms, and then jumped from the car to run toward the frontstretch grandstands where he handed the checkered flag to a young fan.
I never lost hope. We've faced adversity and it really hasn't been a good year for us in terms of luck, but the guys on the #12 are amazing. They stay strong no matter what happens.
The victory completes Team Penske's goal of placing all three of its primary drivers in the playoffs, adding to previous wins by Joey Logano and Austin Cindric.
Spire Motorsports Reaches New Performance Level
Carson Hocevar finished second for the second time in 2025, matching his best result achieved in Atlanta in February. The 22-year-old regained confidence after mechanical trouble suffered the previous week at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
"Just shows how strong this group is to bounce back from last week's disappointment," Hocevar said. "We kept the faith and got a chance. I'm proud of this team. We came up one spot short again, but hopefully this is a step in the right direction."
Joe Gibbs Racing Maintains Consistency Despite Setbacks
Denny Hamlin finished third after winning the first stage and leading 79 laps. The veteran driver faced hydration system issues during the race but managed to maintain a solid position.
"Just couldn't keep up with the #12 on long runs. After 40 laps I could stay with him, but after that he'd pull away and stretch the gap," explained Hamlin, who awaits the birth of his third child any day now.
Collective Performance Solidifies Penske's Strategy
Defending race winner Joey Logano completed fourth place after leading 10 laps in the second half of the event. The driver of the #22 Ford praised his team's collective performance.
"The #12 was spectacular, which gave them a big advantage and we just couldn't hold onto second," Logano said. "Good execution and I'm proud of Team Penske. All our cars have a win now and that's pretty impressive. All the teams are really strong."
Hendrick Motorsports Maintains Advantage
William Byron rounded out the top five and extended his championship lead to 48 points over teammate Kyle Larson. Chase Elliott, also of Hendrick, sits fifth overall as the highest-ranked winless driver.
Larson staged an impressive recovery to finish eighth after starting 28th and being involved in a lap 115 incident.
Elimination Tournament Takes Shape With Full Field
The Nashville race also set the participants for the NASCAR In-Season Challenge, an elimination tournament that will run during five consecutive summer races with TNT Sports.
Brad Keselowski secured the final available spot by just 21 points over Trackhouse Racing's Shane Van Gisbergen. The tournament begins June 28 at Atlanta, followed by Chicago, Sonoma, Dover and Indianapolis, with the winner receiving $1 million.
The next three races at Michigan, Mexico City and Pocono will determine tournament seeding based on each driver's best finish in those events.
Multiple Leaders
The race saw 18 lead changes among nine different drivers. Chase Briscoe led the first 39 laps, while Hamlin and Blaney alternated command for most of the event.
Blaney took definitive control on lap 269 and maintained the advantage through the final 32 laps, completing a 103-lap green-flag run that sealed his first win of the year.
The NASCAR Cup Series returns next Sunday with the Firekeeper's Casino 400 at Michigan International Speedway, where Tyler Reddick will defend his title from last year.
