Kyle Larson won this Sunday's Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway with a dominant performance, dedicating the victory to his PR representative Jon Edwards, who passed away unexpectedly during the race week.
This one's definitely for Jon. We had a successful weekend here. I wish he could be with us to celebrate, but I know he's celebrating with us in spirit.
The driver of the Chevrolet No. 5 for Hendrick Motorsports led 411 of 500 laps, securing his second win of the 2025 season and the 31st of his NASCAR Cup Series career.
Near-perfect weekend in Thunder Valley
The Sunday race capped a near-perfect weekend for Larson at the 0.533-mile oval, having also won Saturday's Xfinity Series race. Only Friday's Truck Series victory escaped him, where he finished second.
The Californian swept both race stages, maintaining dominance after taking the lead on Lap 40 from Alex Bowman, who started from pole position and led the first 39 laps.
With this performance, Larson tied Martin Truex Jr. with 66 stage wins - the most since the segmented format was introduced in 2017.
Hamlin comes close but falls short
Denny Hamlin, seeking his third consecutive NASCAR Cup win, finished second 2.250 seconds behind Larson. His Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Ty Gibbs completed the podium 6.679 seconds back.
You have to give credit to that team - it was a dominant performance. Looked like a perfect day for them. I did everything I could to stay close with our Toyota Progressive.
The race ran caution-free for the final 235 laps, allowing long stretches of uninterrupted racing. Contrary to Saturday practice observations, Bristol's concrete surface developed good grip and tire wear wasn't a major factor.
Blaney's alternative strategy pays off
Ryan Blaney employed a different strategy by running 175 laps on the same set of tires before pitting on Lap 440. This allowed him to lead 48 laps while Larson made his final stop on Lap 390, ultimately finishing fifth.
Chase Briscoe came home fourth, giving Joe Gibbs Racing three top-five finishers. William Byron charged from 26th starting position to sixth, with Ross Chastain, Christopher Bell and AJ Allmendinger completing the nine cars on the lead lap.
Austin Dillon rounded out the top 10 as the first driver one lap down, in a race that saw just three cautions and four lead changes among four different drivers.
