Mateo Girón extended his lead in the Trucks México Series 2025 championship by claiming victory in the second round of the calendar, held this Sunday, March 23 at the Super Óvalo Chiapas. In front of thousands of fans filling the stands of the Berriozábal racetrack, the Zacatecas-born driver from team HO Speed completed the scheduled 90 laps in first place, ahead of Gerardo Rodríguez and Carlos Novelo, who rounded out the winners' podium.
Battle for the lead at Super Óvalo Chiapas
Rafael Maggio started with an advantage after securing pole position during Saturday's qualifying in truck #67, positioning himself ahead of Girón, who drove the #5 vehicle for HO Speed.
The race, scheduled for 90 laps, began early on Sunday with packed stands of eager spectators ready to witness the motorsport spectacle. The early stages of the event featured an intense duel between Maggio and Girón.
Key overtakes and flawless driving to victory
After meticulous lap-by-lap work, Girón managed to pass Maggio and claimed the first "Stage" on lap 40, coinciding with a yellow flag caused by contact involving truck #27 driven by Valeria Aranda, who was able to continue racing despite the incident.
During the pit stop, Maggio temporarily regained the lead, but Girón quickly retook first place. This duel was joined by Gerardo Rodríguez in truck #26, just before another yellow flag appeared on lap 65.
In the final stretch, Mateo Girón's #5 truck maintained absolute control of the race, resisting Rodríguez's pressure to secure his second win of the season. Carlos Novelo completed the podium in the #18 vehicle.
Autódromo Miguel E. Abed to host the championship's third round
The Autódromo Internacional Miguel E. Abed in Puebla will host the third round of the championship, scheduled for April 13. This upcoming race will mark a change of scenery, moving from the Chiapas oval to a mixed circuit.
