Driver Corey Heim capitalized on his team's exceptional pit work to win the Ecosave 200 of the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series held on Friday, March 14, at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, securing his second victory of the 2025 season.
The race, held under unusually cold conditions for Las Vegas and interrupted twice by sudden rain showers, turned around when the pit crew of the Toyota #11 from TRICON Garage completed a quick pit stop during a caution flag on lap 86, giving Heim the lead.
Recovery After Penalty
"First and foremost, the pit crew did an extraordinary job to get the truck out front," commented Heim, who admitted to making a mistake in the first stage by receiving a penalty for speeding on pit road on lap 31.
This victory marks Heim's first at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and the thirteenth of his career. The driver took final control of the race on lap 101, passing Layne Riggs after the final restart following the fourth caution caused by an accident involving Jack Wood in turn 4.
Control in Adverse Conditions
"These weren't exactly the conditions we wanted with the cold weather and all," Heim expressed about the circumstances during the race. "It's better when it's hot and slippery... I was giving it my all. I think we were all pushing to the limit at the end. I spent a lot of time looking in my mirror, and it worked."
Heim led 42 of the 134 laps in the race, finishing ahead of Grant Enfinger, who came in second with a 0.825-second gap. Enfinger overtook Tanner Gray for second place on lap 126 but couldn't catch Heim in the final eight laps.
The Battle for the Podium
"We went side by side and lost a bit there," Enfinger explained about his duel with Gray. "We probably pushed our tires beyond their limit, and that hurt us at the end. Corey was superior to us in short runs, and Jeff (Stankiewicz, crew chief) made this Chevrolet #9 perform really well in long runs. Our pit crew did an incredible job to move us from 11th to 5th in the final pit stop."
Gray held onto third place at the finish, followed by the current champion and winner of the first stage, Ty Majeski, and Riggs in fifth. Stewart Friesen, Rajah Caruth, Chandler Smith, Matt Crafton, and Tyler Ankrum, winner of the second stage, rounded out the top ten.
The race saw 21 lead changes among 12 different drivers. Rain delays at the end of the first two stages resulted in red flags lasting 55 minutes and 51 seconds and 19 minutes and 42 seconds, respectively.
