Penalties resulting from the post-Daytona 500 technical inspection have affected three teams in the NASCAR Cup Series. The identified infractions have led to financial fines, points deductions, and suspensions.

Modification in Chase Briscoe's Car

The Joe Gibbs Racing No. 19 Toyota, driven by Chase Briscoe, was found in violation of NASCAR regulations after an inspection at the R&D Center in Concord, North Carolina. The irregularity involved unauthorized modifications to the base of the rear spoiler, a single-source supplier part that cannot be altered according to the rulebook. Under NASCAR regulations, a level L2 penalty applies to modifications of single-source supplier parts for Next Gen cars.

The penalty for the team includes a $100,000 fine, a loss of 100 owner points, and 10 playoff points. Briscoe also loses 100 driver points and 10 playoff points. Additionally, his crew chief, James Small, has been suspended for the next four races of the championship, up to Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Following this penalty, Briscoe is now in last place in the overall standings with a negative score of -67, making his season start significantly more challenging.

Penalties for Ballast Irregularities

The cars of Todd Gilliland (Front Row Motorsports) and Cody Ware (Rick Ware Racing) were also penalized for infractions related to ballast. NASCAR determined that both cars failed to comply with safety regulations, as the ballast must be securely contained within a designated compartment.

As a result, both Gilliland and Ware lose 10 driver points, and their teams also lose 10 owner points in the standings.
